Redbox & Verizon

Although I like the new business model about to take shape. Redbox getting into the Streaming market is a must, but I feel that red box paired with Netflix would have been an even larger selling point. Netflix already has a huge streaming content, and given the ability to rent almost anything from Netflix and add the ability to return to a little red kiosk down the street to get an immediate rental exchange. This would be a classic scenario. Ultimately these two power hungry giants may not see this business model in there future, but a consumer such as myself would love to have the ability to rent a DVD from the extensive library, have it shipped to my house, then return it down the street for something that is stocked in the local Red Kiosk. (It just makes sense)... Although, maybe sometime in the future this will occur, but for now we'll all have to be happy with what the pairing of Verizon and Redbox will bring. - http://ping.fm/4pO5Y

Zuckerberg's, "The Hacker Way"?? - Or is it?

In a recent letter to Investors Mark Zuckerberg likens himself to a Hacker.. I see in the mission of a Hacker its not as negative as one thinks. A Hacker's mission as well as Facebook is to promote social change. To bring about change even potentially forcefully when a better method could be adopted. The connotation Hacker is typically associated with wrong doing, causing a Virus to appear on my system. And in some instances its regular companies that are using these exploits to get you to purchase items from them. (ie. The You've got a virus, Buy our Virus Removal Software). Next thing you know your in a conundrum because you really do have a virus or spyware now and its all because of there Virus removal software. So with Facebook bringing positive light upon the term, "Hacker", does this mean that society as a whole will embrace the Hacker culture? Will Defcon, ThotCon, groups like Anonymous be welcomed in to society as those who promote change? Or will they still be the outcasts that some of us despise? Only time will really tell but maybe the workings really do bring about change? If it weren't for companies being hacked, then security wouldn't be as strong as it is? To hack a secure facility and be successful, then typically that facility becomes more secure to prevent future hacks. So in all we are changing.. Its just the way we wish to perceive the change.

You know I was checking out the Tech news and saw that there are leaks that Windows 8 will have Kinect Functionality incorporated into it. Something I want to see in the future. Internet Connected Appliances & other household items. I love the idea of Internet connected Thermostat, lets take this idea further. I want to be able to get off work, tap and app on my phone and see what type of groceries are in my Fridge. So I can then determine if I need to pickup say Milk before I make it home.
I want to see from my phone if the Microwave or Oven is running. Maybe your cooking something in the oven but your the only one at home and need to run to the grocery store for that one last ingredient? Wouldn't it be nice to monitor your oven and not worry about burning the house down and being able to run off to get that one last ingredient? What about watering the lawn? Maybe its going to be a hot day, and your at work. Click a button on your App to start the water sprinkler in your yard? Maybe resurrect those self propelled lawn mowers have them WiFi enabled and report status back to you on how much of the lawn is mowed? The skys the limit, but none of these areas have been touched? It seems the mantra for the next decade at least is to make things simpler, so lets move past the normal technology focus and get on with the other items we could improve with the help of smart technology.

We've developed as a society technologically, but there are developments in the past that I would still have to say were awe inspiring. What happened to Holograms? I remember in the early 90's late 80's there was this video game that was a hologram based game. It was amazing to seem characters pop out of a flat sheet of glass and be able to run my hands right through them. Concept was horrible, but the technology was prevalent. But this technology seems to be no longer adapted to everyday consumer use. And the game in question ceased to exist and was probably so costly that it was hard to sell to various consumer markets. But I would think by now or in the near future, we would have evolved as a society enough to be able to handle such an evolutionary concept. Wouldn't it be cool to just walk into your conference room and sit down at a table of co-workers that aren't actually there? That conference room was all created to holographic images of the individuals sitting in chairs from miles away? Yet so realistic that you felt comfortable enough to interact with them as if they were sitting right in front of you? We lose that sense of realism with conference calls and internet chatting. It seems as if we could easily get this back through undertaking the re-development of concepts that were once prevalent in society and have no longer been adopted as the norm. Robots, Holograms, and Virtual Reality are really something that shouldn't be associated to the 80's and 90's.. But something that would be a great fit along the likes of Siri and Xbox Kinect.
