I first tried acetone in my cars, and I actually did see some minor increases in mpg. A lot of people kept telling me to not add it to my fuel. And I did a lot of research there were some bad reviews but ultimately the positives out weighed the negatives. So I went to the local farm and fleet and picked up a can of pure 100% acetone. I measured it out making sure I added only 3 to 4 ounces per 10 gallons, and instantly saw improvements.
One thing to note I also prefer to use shell gasolines because of the nitrogen additives. This seems to help you mpg out nicely too. Typically I will see a 3mpg increase in the car. Now it's not instant though you need to run a couple tanks through before you'll notice.
But ultimately all these chemicals do is produce higher combustible levels within the engine and allow for a more efficient and full burn of the gasoline. With all this being said I actually found an additive at the local walmart that actually listed the ingredients in the can. Typically this is a no no because of the secretiveness that goes along with selling these products.
Well reading the ingredients the company actually uses acetone in there additive. Something people have rumored about on the discussion forums I've researched. But never actually proven. This gave s clear link to the theory that there are benefits of running acetone in a combustable engine.
So long story short follow the little helpful tips and you can get your car to give you just a little better gas mileage without spending much money at all. A gallon of acetone runs around $15 and would be good for about 15+ tanks of gas. That's just $1 a tank or less.
